Alternate Watch

Training aid for identifying when weather or location may drive alternate planning review.

Controls

• White dice: random mission.
• Red dice: random bad-weather practice mission.
• Magnifier: search airfields by ICAO, name, or city.
• Compass: guidebook and trigger-point logic.
• Gear: set the saved departure, destination, and alternates used by refresh.
• Zap: clear mission fields.
• Refresh: restore default mission fields.

Logic

• Destination and alternates evaluate ETA plus or minus 1 hour.
• Red weather: ceiling below 2,000 ft AGL or visibility below 3 SM.
• Yellow weather: ceiling at or below 2,500 ft AGL, visibility at or below 5 SM, or wind above 15 kt.
• Red wind chip: wind above 25 kt.
• Takeoff review: ceiling below 300 ft flags red; below 200 ft drives takeoff alternate review.
• OCONUS departure or destination shows an OCONUS chip, but filters focus on weather-driven status.
• NOTAM feature currently unavailable.
